Predicting Internal Migration Patterns of a Province in the Philippines

Author(s): Adam Keth J Laquio, Patrick G Galleto, Corazon B Ochotorena

Abstract:

People allegedly migrate in search of financial gain, safety, and the conviction that doing so will allow them to achieve their goals and objectives. Several reasons show different migratory patterns, including those from rural to urban, urban to rural, rural to urban, and rural to rural. This study was set up to predict internal migration patterns of Zamboanga del Norte, a province in the Philippines. The analysis was grounded on Adjusted Harris-Todaro Model. According to the survey, Katipunan town had the lowest HT score out of all the Zamboanga del Norte locales, while the municipality of Siayan had the highest. It predicts that additional migrants are expected to relocate to Siayan Municipality. The municipality of Katipunan, on the one hand, is expected to send more migrants to the other areas of the province. On the other hand, the cities of Dipolog and Dapitan are anticipated to send migrants to the province's municipalities.
